A magical adventure or a disappointing game? Review of Hogwarts Legacy

What was the Hogwarts Legacy game like?

In the 1990s and 2000s, the movie game genre became a stigma that made players with experience avoid such projects. So instead of high-quality standalone projects, developers hastily made an appendage to a popular movie in the theater.  afun

With Harry Potter, the situation was different. Formally, the first few games were timed to the movies but followed instead by the books by writer Joan Rowling. However, after a few issues, the game series about the “boy who survived” also became a typical addition to the film spinning in theaters. lol coaching

As a result, no decent games based on the universe have been released in the last 15-20 years. Exceptionally as large as Hogwarts Legacy – a full-fledged expensive role-playing game where you can explore Hogwarts and its environs. But does the game have other merits besides belonging to the popular franchise? Let’s find out. Even online casinos have slots on the theme of Harry Potter, and you can see this by looking at F-ast apps review, where these games are presented.

What is Hogwarts Legacy about?

The novelty story centers on a young fifth-year wizard (or wizardess) who, for reasons unknown, is transferred to Hogwarts from another magical academy. The action takes place about 100 years before the events of the Harry Potter saga itself and shortly before the events of the Fantastic Beasts prequel movie series.

Nevertheless, don’t expect many famous characters to appear. Even those in the game are more of a revived setting in the truest sense of the word. So, on the walls of Hogwarts, you can find talking pictures, including the ones that are known from the movies.

But the main character is an entirely new face. The character is to be created by the player himself, and the choice of appearance parameters is extensive; you can try to reproduce yourself or some other person accurately. At the same time, the hero could be more actively involved in the main story because grand events are unfolding around him against his will.

Soon after arriving, the player will have to choose the faculty in which he will study. All four factions known from the movies and books are represented here: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. However, the choice of the faculty will not affect the fact that the hero is involved in a battle between wizards.

This battle occurs behind the scenes but still noticeably affects the life of the Wizarding World. In this case, we are talking about goblin gold and the confrontation that unfolds in the fight for it.

How does Hogwarts Legacy play?

The main intrigue was the gameplay of the novelty – so profound and expensive “Harry Potter” game has never been before. Hogwarts Legacy can be compared to any popular open-world third-person shooter, be it Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla or Horizon Zero Dawn. However, the place of action and the game’s universe generally impose their own limitations.

Hogwarts Castle has many corridors, classrooms, greenhouses, and halls, and the surrounding castle and the village of Hogsmeade are available to explore. As in the previously mentioned popular open-world games, all these locations are littered with collectibles and various activities.

But real wizards don’t need to navigate this vast world alone! So, of course, the game has implemented the ability to fly on a broom so that you can get to any point on the map quickly and with a breeze.

Here, however, there are a few unpleasant things.

  • Firstly, when flying fast, the impression of the game is spoiled by the objects loading right in front of your nose, which is visible at high altitudes. However, this is forgivable for a game with such a large and rich open world.
  • And secondly, contrary to the numerous rumors and expectations of the fans, there is no Quidditch in Hogwarts Legacy. It’s a magical sports game in which two teams of riders on broomsticks try to throw different flying balls into the rings. Though there is even a plot justification: they say not long before the plot starts, one of the players got a severe injury, and that’s why they decided to cancel the Quidditch season because of safety rules’ inspection. But you will have a lot of fun in the game without Quidditch. Many characters are ready to give you additional tasks, and there are over a hundred of them in the game. It is true, but we must mention that some of them are the infamous “gimme-gimme” and “go-kill” quests, although there are also enough elaborate side missions with their own story.
  • It’s also possible to note the conventionality of what’s going on. To play Hogwarts Legacy comfortably, the developers went for some tricks and eventually broke the laws of the Wizarding World. For example, the player won’t be punished for using the “unforgivable spells” – remember the famous Avada Kedavra.

Location Drawing

But all the places in the game are reproduced in detail and seem filled with life: the game characters walk around them and solve their daily problems. For example, the students discuss the future exam – they have to prove that they have mastered the minimum Magic Learning Standards.

The main character, by the way, also has to do this, so attending the many classes familiar to fans of movies and books is necessary. Astronomy, Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, History of Magic, Pottery, and other disciplines, lessons on which are designed as exciting mini-games with their plot and program. However, as the plot progresses, the story gathers so much momentum that the hero is no longer up to his lessons.

You must learn and use the many spells to avoid getting killed during the showdown of wizards and battles with unfriendly magical creatures. It just can be done in those same classes, although some will have to master it on their own.

Arsenal in the hands of the player is significant – not many in any shooter can be found as many “guns”; how many spells are implemented in Hogwarts Legacy? Starting with the most innocuous bits, like Depulso and Stupefy, and ending with those, as mentioned above, “unforgivable spells.”
